Old Skills with a New Storytelling Twist

Grab your cameras, take a couple of lenses you might not normally use (and a couple of your favourites as well), we're going on a journey. Whether you just stepped out of your home or your hotel room, take a look around. Our world is always different every day. What you see right now might be what you think the last person who stepped out that hotel door (or the door to your home) saw, but it never isn't. Many things have changed, many stories have been told, and today you are going to see and tell more.

Now go find a person, or a group of people, or even a town. This might be one of the first times you have met this person or the hundredth, it doesn't matter. What matters is that this person is not a client but an average everyday person (man/woman, young/old... none of this matters either). Similarly, this can be a town you've lived in your whole life, or one you've just entered for the first time. There should be no financial gain connected to this subject. And there should be no other jobs or activities scheduled for this day - it is a day for personal reflection and experimentation.

What I want you to do today is tell the story of this new subject. Teach me. Show me. Move me. Tell me their story without a written word. I want to know as much as possibly can be known about this subject. I want to see not only movement, but also personality and character. I want to hear their voice without seeing a word. And I want to feel not only textures, but also emotions and mood. Sounds difficult, right? In fact, it is often too easy if you simply open your eyes.

Now take a breath. Look at the images of the day. What do you see? Can you read the story without words? Can you see imagery that jumps out and speaks to you. This is what I see now when I embark on these private photographic journeys; a new intimate world of imagery that reaches new heights of beauty and personal revelation. I assure you, the results will be the same. You will feel alive and artistic again and rejuventated to deal with regular clients and the chaos we call life.
