Hi, I'm Huw 👋, a photographer based in Cinderford, Gloucestershire, England, available for photography services across the surrounding areas.
Thank you for visiting the home of Tucked Away Photography – my small part of the internet where I share the way I see and experience the world around me, and give you a glimpse of what I can offer when you choose to work with me.
I truly hope you enjoy exploring my work.
My name is Huw, and I've been taking photography seriously for around five years. Tucked Away Photography came about partly because there were already so many people using the same name as me to showcase their photography, and I wanted to avoid any confusion. But the name also has a much more personal meaning.
I've loved photography since I was young and still have the first camera I ever borrowed from my mum proudly displayed at home. However, my journey towards becoming a serious photographer didn't begin until later in life.
Around 14 years ago, I was diagnosed with PTSD and found myself needing a safe space – somewhere that could take me away from the challenges I was facing in everyday life. My friends and family supported me throughout many difficult years, and after a particularly tough period, a great friend encouraged me to join them on a photography day.
I was exceptionally reluctant at first, but eventually agreed – and I'm so glad I did.
A whole new world opened up in front of me. I discovered that, through photography, I could relax and feel a sense of normality. I found myself regularly becoming "tucked away" behind my camera, absorbed in the challenge of learning how to create a particular photograph or achieve a certain style, while also sharing my unique view of the world with others.
Being outdoors with my camera, whatever the weather, is something I find incredibly therapeutic. We often hear that spending time in nature is good for us, and I wholeheartedly agree.
The sounds of nature are calming, and you become completely absorbed in your surroundings. For a while, the challenges of everyday life can be left behind, even if only for a short time.
Although I love being outside, I also enjoy photographing people. Whether that's in woodland, urban environments or even in a studio, every setting brings its own challenges and opportunities to learn something new.
My desire to improve and develop my photography continues every day, and I hope you enjoy taking the time to explore some of my work.
I always strive to create images that make you stop and take notice – photographs that provoke a reaction, start a conversation and stay in your mind.
I know that we don't all like the same images, styles or genres of photography, and that's perfectly fine. My goal is simply to create work that makes you feel something and encourages you to look at the world around you with fresh eyes and new thoughts.
For me, photography is about more than simply taking a picture. It's about seeing the world differently, capturing something meaningful and creating imagery that leaves an impression.
