Our mentors will write a comprehensive report on the images supplied and take into consideration just some of the following aspects:
Good use of studio/artificial or available light. Lighting well used to ensure mood or drama. Attention has been paid to the direction of light.
Sufficient light has been used e.g. light the eyes and a single catch light is present. Lighting has given sufficient modelling. Fill light or reflectors used appropriately. Understanding of the effect and relationship of lighting to specific subjects i.e. landscape images lighting to show the subject to it’s best advantage
The subjects have been placed appropriately within the frame to give a balanced composition appropriate to the image. Exposure, point of focus sharpness etc. appropriate for the subject.. Clear understanding of importance of form shape texture. Background or foreground does not compete for the viewer’s attention.
Camera angle and viewpoint well used. Correct exposure. Images sharp, with correct of choice of point of sharpest focus, good use of differential focus when appropriate. No evidence of camera shake. Good choice of controls e.g. speed and aperture. Correct choice of appropriate lens. Attention to detail e.g. expression and moment of time
Competent digital technique. Images free from digital artefacts e.g. Lossy effect, noise, blemishes, sensor marks. Tonal range, contrast and use of colour balance appropriate to subject. Highlight and shadow detail well controlled
The general impression should be of competence with some evidence of individual thinking and communication. Images should show variety of approach and or a technique showing the photographer has explored their chosen subject.
