Congratulations to Alex Benyon with his image.
Alex esplains - ''This image was taken during a trip to the Omo Valley in South Ethiopia and depicts the women of the Hamer Tribe dancing and singing during a bull jumping ceremony. The ceremony is a rite of passage for the young men of the tribe and is a huge event for the whole tribe. Part of the ceremony includes the voluntary whipping of the female members of the tribe using birch branches (as can be seen in the image) and is seen as a sign of devotion and encouragement to the young man who is taking part in the ceremony. The women believe that the greater the pain they endure, the higher the level of loyalty they’re showing to the young boy and the scars left on their body are a symbol of the loyalty they’re entitled to receive from him.

It was shot on a Sony A7R III and Zeiss 50mm f1.4 ZA Planar T* Lens (f/1.4 - 1/8000 - ISO100)
